About the Author
Ann Raimes is Professor of English at Hunter College, City University of New York, where she has taught for 30 years. In addition to teaching undergraduate composition courses, ESL writing courses, and graduate courses in rhetoric and composition, she was in charge of the Developmental English Program students for ten years and has held a variety of administrative posts in the English Department, including directing the first-year composition course. She also chaired a CUNY-wide ESL Task Force, 1993-94, and was chair of International TESOL's Publication Committee, 1989-91. Author of eight textbooks for composition--three of them are published by Houghton Mifflin--and ESL courses (many in several editions), Ann Raimes also publishes research and theoretical articles and has been invited to give keynote addresses in Singapore, Hong Kong, Rome, Athens, and in many parts of Canada and the US. Her research interests are the writing process, second language writing, grammar instruction, writing across the curriculum, and Web-based instruction.

wonderful guide to those who love romantic gardens

I am not as expert as the first reviewer but can only say after checking this out of my local library I had to own a copy to plan and dream of a future trip to Italy and visit just a few of these gorgeous gardens. What I really love is that in the back of the book each garden is located on a map and hours/dates of opening is given, along with address and telephone number. What a wonderful resource.

And if I never get to visit I can use some of the style in my own small garden. Perhaps a lemon tree in a pot or a rose growing into a tree.

Of course a book could be written and lavishly photographed from almost each of the major gardens included but I'm glad for this compendium as it is.

Beautifully illustrated

Sixty gardens is of course a personal selection of gardens by the author. And I miss quite a few of historic and design-wise interesting places. Le Marche is not represented at all and Villa Barbarigo is also missing, along with some smaller, but exquisite gardens scattered over the peninsula. That said, the photos are great and most of the more famous places are well illustrated. The text is not that of a deep-probing and exploring academic, it's simply describing the place with some impressions and a few facts well known from previously published books. The best book on the subject is still Georgina Massons 'Italian Gardens' from the 1950's. Very strange...

Stimulating text as well as pictures

The references in the foreword to the writings of Pliny the Younger on the philosophical objectives of an Italian garden were useful, and their application in later Medici villa renaissance gardens. The book inspires one to actually get on and realize the developments one has been toying with for years.

courtesy of my very thoughtful best friend since first grade

I cannot put this book down. It was written by a man I met a few years ago, courtesy of my very thoughtful best friend since first grade, who drove me up to New Oxford, PA, and introduced me to Barry at one of his channeling sessions with Barbara Lee. Over the years, I have gone from totally rejecting the idea of life after death and reincarnation to totally open to the concept. It's been a long and slow process, but I have come around to believe that both continuation of the soul and reincarnation are really the only scenarios that make sense to me. At age almost 59, I can only hope I still have enough time left to discover who my guides are and how to contact them. There is so very much yet to learn! Barry's book is an eye-opener for anyone willing to consider that just because we can't see it does not mean it does not exist.

I cannot put this book down! I stayed up way to late because I got lost in it's pages. Very educational! I feel like Barry is speaking to me in a very friendly setting - having a conversation about his experiences with me over a cup of coffee. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the paranormal, whether you are a novice or experienced. I have read about many of these things before but Barry's style just sucks you in! If you haven't picked up your copy yet you are really missing out on a great read from a great author.

About the Author
After graduating from Oxford and pursuing further academic studies at Reading, James Taylor spent twelve years working in central government. However, the lure of writing about cars proved too great and he decided to turn it into a career. James has now written well over one hundred books in all, and among them have been several definitive one-make or one-model titles, including a number for Crowood. He has also written for enthusiast magazines in several countries, has translated books for foreign languages, and delivers effective writing training in both the public and private sectors.

love or magic?

Ronnie is devastated when her boyfriend John breaks up with her. She decides the reason he did is because he found out that she has magic. She hopes her friend Nikki still has Wynter's book so she can take away her magic. But when she learns Nikki destroyed that book, Ronnie turns to Wynter for help. Will Wynter help Ronnie with what she desires? Will Ronnie get John back and is her having magic the true reason John ended things? Find out in this wonderful short story!

Beauifully Detailed

This novella introduces us to Ronnie, a shifter who has just gotten her heart broken by John. She loves him so much that she is willing to do the unthinkable....sorry, no spoilers here. This short read written by K.R. Thompson was truly an enjoyable read as I quickly found myself engrossed by this magical world of assorted shifters and beings. This story was beautifully detailed and left you wanting more. The only thing I didn't like was that it was over far to quickly but it is a novella and I'll soon discover more when I begin to read The Keeper Saga.

I absolutely Loved the Keeper Saga and was sad that it ended. I was so happy to read this novella that is a spin-off from the Keeper Saga. I was hooked from the beginning and could not put it down. It was so good that I was sorry to see it end and am hoping for more from these characters. Like all of Mrs. Thompson's books it is a great read. It makes you wish you could travel into her books and visit with her characters that are so endearing that you think of them as friends. Really Great Read!

PERFECT for students - Overall, best short guide to major DSM-V categories, questions to elicit symptoms, MSE

I have a personal medical library with hundreds of titles, including several dozen pocket guides on a number of topics. This is the best such short guide I have yet encountered. It's about a centimenter thick, weighs nothing, and fits easily in the lab coat, and yet contains not only all the complete diagnostic information I need, but structures it in the form of easily usable questions, as well as "how-to" information, an overview of the MSE, the MMSE, and a good short guide to taking psych histories.

The reviewer who says that it cites Wikipedia is dead wrong. It does not. All the references are to highly reputable sources.
