About the Author
Jainendra was one of the most influential Hindi writers of the twentieth century. Best known for his exploration of the human psyche, he established the Hindustani Sabha in Lahore with Premchand. After Premchand s death, he became the editor of the prestigious literary magazine Hans. He was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1966 and the Padma Bhushan in 1971.

Lombardi's legacy reaches far beyond the football field. For a large part of the populace, the man who said "winning isn't the most important thing; it's the only thing" was a symbol of the virtues needed to succeed at anything. O'Brien portrays him as essentially a simple man"a fundmentalist in his football, his character, his religion, and his values." Surprisingly, this is the first major biography of the man to appear. Earlier works like Lombardi, edited by John Wiebusch (1971), and Lombardi: winning is the only thing, edited by Jerry Kramer (1970), relied heavily on excerpts of interviews with friends and colleagues of the legendary coach. About the Author
Michael O'Brien is University Lecturer in American History at the University of Cambridge and is a fellow of Jesus College. He is editor-in-chief of the Southern Texts Society and is the author or editor of several books on Southern intellectual history.

Thorough, well-researched bio of Lombardi

This is a very good book, but not a great one. Vince does well describing Lombardi through his actions and the impact he had on those around him, especially his former players. Everything is written in a clear and easily understood manner, especially his paradoxical nature.
However, it does not clear my threshold as a great book. A great book would have involved me not as a viewer from afar, but as a fly in the locker room. Since O'Brien did not play for Lombardi, I was hoping for more insight of how his players felt. I never got emotional reading this book, and emotion is a large part of what Lombardi was about.
Basically, it reads like an exquisitely written research paper.

I THOUGHT WRITER MICHAEL O' BRIEN SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS LIBERAL THINKING OUT OF THE BOOK. THE BOOK WAS ABOUT VINCE LOMBARDI. IF HE WAS A CONSERVATIVE SO BE IT. LET THE READER MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS ON VINCE LOMBARDI'S THOUGHTS. OTHERWISE I GOT NO COMPLAINTS.

great screwball comedy -- 4.5 stars

This book is a great example of what Vickie Lewis Thompson does best -- screwball romantic comedy. It reminds me of some of her best "nerd" books, which have long been on my keeper shelf. The situations are often hilarious, but the characters are still very real and likable. I read the book in no time and couldn't wait to get back to it if I had to put it down even momentarily.

However, I would give it 4.5 stars because the relationship seemed rushed in a few spots. ** Possible spoilers: It really needed more build-up of the couple's attraction to one another because their relationship seemed to go from "Hey, I'm attracted to you" to "Let's get married" with very little in between except one weekend. I know they were supposed to have been friends at work, but I just felt something was missing there. I understand this to have originally been a Harlequin publication, so the abbreviated length probably accounts for this lack since it's not something I've noticed in Ms. Thompson's longer novels. Just a little more back story involving their close friendship and maybe Lynn's always finding the Tony cute or something would have filled in the holes for me, though. **

That said, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a light-hearted, sweet romance.

Great story with many twists, parental discord & finding love

Vicki Thompson is an author whose books I can't put down once open. To me this is her best. Two lawyers get involved when she, trying to stop her parents pending divorce comes up with a wild idea of deceipt to bring them
together. Her cohort, a seeming staid dull guy agrees to become her gigilo
lover. But she does not know he had been wild in high school. When they meet her parents, he is kissing her wildly. She puts her hand in his back
jeans pocket to show their sexual involvement. The parents are appalled that she is going with such a creep and try to break it up. Yet he bonds with them. As he does, their objections decrease and affection for each other re-unites. She had wanted a real lover but never envisioned him until their ploy breaks down her defenses and love develops. An outsider
tries to steal her away using a ruse. They rush to find her. Love starts
to develop. However she had told her mother that the gigilo would wrongly claim he was a legal partner. He learns of her deception and gets furious.
Will her parents stay together? Can she return to work along side with her deep love for him and his disdain? The book is delighful fun w/some twists and very hard to put down. I got emersed in it. You will too. I highly recommend this book to anyone who vaguely enjoys Vicki Thompson. A+

Absolutely The Funniest Book I Ever Read!

I like romatic comedies, and this one is the best. It made the rounds
of the women in the office where I used to work, and all gave it a
thumbs up!
Lynn and Tony are both lawyers in the same office. Lynn
needs an unsuitable fiance to unite her parents in opposition to
defuse their upcoming divorce. Buttoned down Tony becomes bad boy
Tony, complete with cigarette pack in rolled up T-shirt sleeve.
The
scenario in the airport where Tony carries Lynn's mother into the
Ladies Room after she passes out and deposits her rear in one basin
and feet in another is a scream. However, the makeout scene in the
back seat of a car is a close second....

This book is for Piano players, and music teachers. Does not cover the Violin, does not cover Sonatas written for other instruments very well. As usual, too much Beethovan, and not much of any one else. Way to dependant on Piano music. Bach wrote Sonata's for Violin long before Beethovan was born. And Sonatas by Paganini, and the rest of the Italian Violin composers are almost entirely ignored. If you want to learn about the Piano and Beethovan, buy it. I am still looking for what I want in the subject matter.
