This is a great textbook. Very informative without being boring. Includes personal reports from patients, families, and experienced nurses. Each chapter concludes with a short quiz to help focus on the main points. Includes assessment tools such as the Mini Mental Status Exam. Perfect for beginners. This book is a refreshing balance of educational and enjoyable reading.

Needed the 10th edition, but got this instead

This is pretty much the same thing as the 10th edition. The only time I ran into any issues is when I had to do a case study that wasn't included in this version. I just copied it from one of my colleagues. All that you need to know about basic psych nursing is in this book.

CannotAPA format from this book.

As a grad student, it is impossible to timely reference this book in APA format. This is the second book I have purchased from Amazon and not been able to site the appropriate pages automatically. You have "Location" numbers instead of "page" numbers. It is very frustrating. This is a MUST to get remediated.

It expands on these books, however, because of the author's remarkable grasp not only of psychoanalytic studies but also of the contemporary critical climate; Whitebook, a philosopher and a psychoanalyst, writes with equal facility on both Habermas and Freud.A central thesis of Perversion and Utopia is that there is an essential affinity between the utopian impulse and the perverse impulse, in that both reflect a desire to bypass the reality principle that Freud claimed to define the human condition. The book explores the positive and negative aspects of the relationship between these impulses, which are ubiquitous features of human life, and the requirements of civilized social existence.Whitebook steers a course between orthodox psychoanalytic conservatism, which seeks simply to repress the perverse-utopian impulse in the name of social continuity and cohesion, and those forms of Freudo-Marxism, postmodernism, and psychoanalytic feminism that advocate its direct and full expression in the name of emancipation. While he demonstrates the limitations of the current textual approaches to Freud, especially those influenced by Lacan, Whitebook also enlists the lessons of psychoanalysis to counteract the excessive rationalism of the Habermasian brand of critical theory, thus making a substantial contribution to current discussions within critical theory itself. His analysis and interpretation of perversion, narcissism, sublimation, and ego bring new insight to these central and thorny issues in Freud, and his discussions of Adorno, Marcuse, Castoriadis, Habermas, Ricoeur, Lacan, and others are equally penetrating.

One of Anne Stuart's darkest books

This is not for the faint of heart. (Yes, I know that's a cliche.) Keep in mind that it's a book about a woman drawn to a man who has been convicted of murder. If you hate that kind of book, this one will make you very uneasy. Even if you like this kind of book, it could still make you uneasy.
I'm a big fan of Gothics. Many Gothics used the plot about the woman who is sucked into a relationship with a man who could be a murderer. Rarely, however, did the authors go beyond the basics of the story, exploiting the simplistic thrill of the plot -- but missing what makes it tick. In the worst of these books, the heroines had no interior life, no logic.
This book is not like that. When this book is over, you'll know why the characters acted as they did. Anne Stuart never takes the easy way out. She explores all the dark corners of this sort of relationship. Why would a woman fall for a guy who could be not just a killer, but a serial killer? And what is HE up to?

If you're tired of the cliche hero..this one's for you!

This is not a book for everyone. It's dark, dangerous, and is borderline unhealthy at times. It defines why Anne Stuart is unique and dares to go "where few will go".

Richard Tiernan is a convicted serial killer, out on bail, awaiting the outcome of an appeal. He is sentenced to die for the murder of his wife, children, and the suspected death of his mistress.

Sean O'Roarke is a nationally reknowned author who has just posted Richard's bail in exchange for his cooperation in a book detailing his crime and also offering readers a glimpse into his mind.

Cassidy Roarke, Sean's daughter, is a part of the deal. Richard wants her involved and Sean agrees to "bring her in". The reader does not understand why, and we are only given bits and pieces of the "why" until the last part of the book.

This is the backdrop for a highly unusual romance. Cassidy is drawn to this dangerous man, and he gives us no reason to believe he is innocent of his crimes. He is pathological, methodical, eerie, cold, and ruthless. We the reader, along with Cassidy go through this book going back and forth (he's innocent, he's guilty!), but regardless, this is NOT a SAFE man. I don't usually like books when the woman is attracted to a man for no good reason, but this is an exception to that rule. She acknowledges how wrong her feelings are, but she struggles between her fear and her desire. The reader also feels this so it is made believable.

Be careful reading reviews as this book will keep you guessing until the very end. The ending is very abrupt. Almost too abrupt for a novel this laced with detail and depth. That truly is my only critique of this hugely gripping psychological thriller.

Worthwhile, but I was somewhat disappointed with the CAD

This is the second half of Alex Crawford's two volume set on the classic Gloster Gladiator biplane.

The book is a 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", 160 page, square bound card cover in MMP's White Series (No 9114). The pages are broken down as follows:

15 pages of color photographs and histories of surviving examples.

13 pages of a translation of a Swedish maintenance manual for the J8/J8A version and accompanying black and white photos.

9 pages of technical description along with contemporary technical illustrations and black and white photographs.

6 pages of line drawings in 1/72nd scale.

6 pages of CAD drawings showing the basic Gladiator structure.

58 pages of close up detailed color photographs of surviving examples complemented by more CAD drawings.

6 pages of close up detailed color photographs of a surviving Swedish J8.

6 pages of anaglyph (3D) drawings with glasses included.

42 pages of color plans and profiles showing various color schemes.

The biggest disappointment for me were the CAD drawings. Although competently executed, there were two problems that made them less than what they could have been. First, most were either shown at too small a size to make out much detail or if they were full page size showed the entire aircraft. Only the cockpit drawings were really satisfactory in this regard. Second, the drawings were aluminum color over a dark background which also made picking out detail tough. I think multiple colors for clarity would have been the way to go. Also, the the rear engine drawing on the top of page 91 looks quite incomplete. There doesn't seem to be any way for air to get into the engine!

The 3D drawings do nothing for me as I can't achieve the proper effect with normal glasses combined with the 3D glasses.

On the plus side the color photographs are really outstanding and worth the price of the book by themselves.

Recommended for anyone with an interest in the aircraft. I'll be interested to see if others had the same issues with the CAD drawings as I did or if it was a case of "just me".

A plane not ahead but behind its time.

It is often said that the Generals fight the last war. While not always true, the case of the Gloster Gladiator certainly proves the point. In the early 1930s the RAF issued specification F.7/30 for a new fighter. The Gladiator was the result. It was a plane that any World War I pilot would immediately recognize. Two wings, wooden frame covered with canvas, it was upgraded to have four rather than two machine guns, but that's about all. Sure enough the plane was designed and flown. It entered front line RAF service in 1937. Meanwhile the Germans began flying Me-109s in 1935. One memorable quotation:

Those old Gladiators aren't made of stressed steel like a Hurricane or a Spit. They have taut canvas wings, covered with magnificently inflammable dope, and underneath there are hundreds of small thin sticks, the kind you put under the logs for kindling, only these are drier and thinner. If a clever man said, 'I am going to build a big thing that will burn better and quicker than anything else in the world,' and if he applied himself diligently to his task, he would probably finish up by building something very like a Gladiator. — Roald Dahl

To be fair, the Americans weren't doing much better, the US Navy bought the Grumman F3F, another biplane. The US Army Air crop was flying the Boeing P-26 Peashooter which looks like a bi-plane with the top wing missing.

This books covers the Gladiator and gives its history. It is profusely illustrated and printed on high quality paper. It shows a tremendous amount of details about the aircraft which was flown by a surprisingly large number of countries.

Thankfully, one was not needed. But being unprepared for a crisis was the natural result. It wasn’t until about 2010, that I was introduced to a fad – paracord bracelets. Not being into fads myself, I bought one only for the thought of having 8' of paracord with me all the time. I liked the idea. Then I began to wonder if I could put a few additional items into the bracelet, woven in, thus making it even more beneficial to me in my traipsing in the outdoors. So, bit by bit, piece by piece, I began to add items that I considered to be of most importance in a survival situation. Having worked in a wilderness survival program, I knew what I could use, what was lightweight, & what was needed to sustain life. Thus, the Trilobite was born (names this way due to it's shape). This booklet contains instructions, along with a story, on what to put into a Trilobite, & how to go about constructing one. I wish you the best in your fabulous outdoor adventures. Tempting

No, this little pamphlet has nothing to do with the creatures that used to roam around the Utah seafloor a few hundred million years ago. It has to do with a very clever and basic survival kit designed by the author. He gives clear instructions on how to make it and will sell you one if you are totally uncoordinated as I am. It's worth giving it a try. Read it and see what you think.

Great illustration of the core ideas in Generic Programming

This is a remarkable book. It vividly illustrates the relationship of abstract mathematics to generic programming, and I don't know of any other book that gets to the heart of generic programming the way this one does.

It starts by describing two algorithms which have been known for millennia - the Egyptian multiplication algorithm, and Euclid's greatest common measure algorithm - and then traces their evolution through history, describing how the algorithms were extended by successive generations of mathematicians. At each step, the authors implement the algorithm in C++, illustrating the process of taking a concrete algorithm and successively generalizing it. These two parallel threads of algorithm evolution and implementation generalization run throughout the book, providing a very compelling demonstration that the process of generalizing an algorithm is precisely the same as the process that mathematics has followed through the ages.

Along the way, we meet many great figures from mathematics, which turns what could have been a dry theoretical text into an absorbing story of the evolution of mathematical thought and the remarkable people that led it. This is an informal book, designed to be easy to read (in stark contrast to "Elements of Programming" by Stepanov and McJones), and any competent programmer with an understanding of high school math should be able to follow it comfortably.

Great Resource for Designing Reusable Code

I am currently an undergraduate CS student, and I really like using math to solve programming problems. In this book, the authors present mathematical approaches to generalization that would be extremely useful to anyone designing libraries of code.

This book applies abstract algebra to the problem of designing reusable program code. (If you're not familiar with abstract algebra already, don't worry--the authors introduce and explain the relevant concepts as needed.) It proposes a paradigm of studying operations on data types separately from the types themselves. One can then categorize these operations--for instance, whether or not the associative/commutative/distributive laws hold--and then use the templates/generics feature of a programming language to create methods that work on many different data types (sometimes these types are so far separated that one wouldn't think that the same code would work for both).

Throughout the book, the authors use the Euclidean algorithm (for computing the greatest common divisor) as an example of the flexibility of an algorithm. After analyzing what properties the related operations and data types must satisfy, they show how the *same code* for the Euclidean algorithm on integers can be used to determine the GCD of two polynomials, two complex numbers, and more. I like writing and maintaining some personal libraries of code, and I believe that the techniques that the authors cover in this book will help me write better code.

Although the primary focus of this book is on the use of Generic Programming, one part of the book that I really appreciated was the time the authors spent taking note of the efficiency of each method. Since this book is describing techniques that are to be used when designing library functions that may be called millions of times a second, every iteration of a loop matters. The authors' careful description of how they take the naive approach and pare it down to the minimum number of operations helped improve my own coding style.

The authors also provide biographical information on the people whose work greatly affected the concepts in this book. This gives the reader a sense of how this topic progressed through history. Some people may not like this (some people want to know only what is immediately useful to them right now), but I enjoyed seeing the progression and refinement of generic mathematics followed by generic programming.

This book uses C++ for all its examples (which shouldn't be unexpected--after all, Stepanov did design the STL), but the book includes a really helpful "C++ for non-C++ Programmers" section in the appendices. (My "primary language" is Java, but using that appendix made all of the code in the book quite understandable.)

I had the honor of reviewing the draft version, and I can say it is a wonderful book!
It combines mathematics, programming and history in a gorgeous and unique way.
Contains ancient geometric algorithms, abstract algebra, and generic programming.
A journey through history, visiting the most prominent figures of mathematics, whose influence can be seen in Generic Programming.
It is a pleasure to read.

An extremely important book

Because this book doesn't follow main stream thinking, it has been allowed to go out of print. The book is about the prehistory of man and the Annanuki or Watchers. However, it is now available from The Golden Age Project, which has republished it for under $40. Anyone doing research using cuniform script or research on Eden or the Giants of Old will find this a valuable resource. Highly recommended. [...]

One of the most important books ever written!

This book details the results of an expedition in Lebanon, of a site called Kharsag. There is monumental evidence that the Hebraic religions, and the Biblical story of the Garden of Eden, all hail back to this small area where agriculture began in the Middle East over 11,000 years ago. The valley of Kharsag is the ONLY proposed location for the Garden of Eden which matches the Biblical description perfectly, and the ONLY place with written records dating back 11,000 years which clear up the history of the Hebrews quite handily. These people had a proto-Hebraic written language which they used to record a vast number of events. Read sections of the Kharsag Epic somewhere online, and read some of the interpretations. These texts are very clear and easy to translate compared to other ancient texts, because there is no kind of mythology or any such thing, just a recording of events, with descriptions of various people and groups.

These early people had a farming community based on a hierarchy, of real people doing real jobs. However, the "lower class" worshiped the management and specialized classes of workers as Gods. The organization of this society also is the source of stories of angels, elohim, etc. For some reason this information has been glossed over for many years. There is an ancient Akkadian story that tells of those working on the "Great Watercourse" in the Garden of Eden revolting against their overseer, who in Akkadian myths is called Enlil, and out of this confrontation came the creation of a "salaried worker" for the first time.

Nobody could make this stuff up, this is the source of the Judaic religions, and this book is the only source I know of for information about this archeological find. Sadly, the Lebanese government has not declared this a protected heritage site, and it is being developed and promoted for tourism. Anyone interested in this should look into the campaign to get the original Garden of Eden (for which there is no other reasonable site) declared a heritage site.
